Pre School Room 2

Our Pre School 2 room is based on the first floor of the Lodge and has a ratio of 1 member of staff to 8 children, with a learning environment that caters for the children to focus their learning on the six areas within the Early Years Foundation Stage. The children are observed to ensure their developmental needs and interests are planned for and each different area of the room promotes the enhancement of different skills in line with the Early Learning Goals.

The room is self contained with role play, messy, small world, creative, book and construction areas readily available for the children to access independently. Activities are planned in a variety of areas and are either adult led or supported to ensure children are making progress towards the Early Learning Goals and are making preparations for that big step to school the following September.

Observations of the children contribute to both our daily and environment planning systems within which the Pre School team plan and evaluate the resources and learning opportunities offered in each area of the room. From these observations development records are completed which document and celebrate the progress and achievements the children have made each month. Bi-annual parents evening are held on an appointment basis which provide each parent the opportunity to discuss with their child’s keyworker their progress and the next steps in their learning.

During meal times the children are encouraged to give out and collect cutlery, forks, spoons and bowls as they begin to understand manners and build their confidence within social situations. They begin to understand and learn about social relationships and the rules associated with these in a group situation.

Each year we embark on our Kids Academy outreach programme within which we liaise with parents and seek to contact the school of your choice, inviting them in to visit our setting and discover more about the children. This provides teachers with the opportunity to observe the children in a familiar environment and in turn offers the child the chance to communicate with a new adult in an environment they are secure in.

Pre School 2, as well as providing the PE and Letters and Sounds sessions also holds weekly French sessions. Within each session simple French words are introduced and are delivered through a series of interactive and fun activities to assist the children in their development of skills when learning a new language.

Homelinks are an integral part of the children’s learning and regular activities at home are provided and Pre School practitioners liaise with parents to ensure our reading book scheme is an enjoyable experience for all involved.
